A Special Operations CERT Member is an advanced, highly trained volunteer within the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program who supports specialized missions during emergencies, disasters, and large-scale community event's.
In addition to completing all basic CERT requirements, Special Operations members receive enhanced training that allows them to operate specialized equipment safely and effectively in support of incident objective's.
Special Operations CERT Members may include training in:

UTV (Utility Task Vehicle) Operations / Safe off-road vehicle operation

Transporting personnel, equipment, and supplies in difficult terrain

Supporting search and rescue operations

Operating within the Incident Command System (ICS)

Drone (UAS) Operation's Basic unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) flight training

Aerial reconnaissance and damage assessment

Search support and situational awareness

Operating in coordination with local emergency management and public safety agencies.

Compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., FAA Part 107 when required)
Key Responsibilities:

Provide rapid situational awareness to Incident Command

Assist with search operations in hard-to-reach areas

Support logistics and transport during extended incidents

Enhance operational safety through aerial observation

Maintain strict adherence to safety protocols and chain of command
A Special Operations CERT Member represents the highest level of volunteer preparedness—combining technical skill, discipline, and teamwork to extend the capabilities of CERT while always operating in support of professional responders and local emergency management.
